New Hair

Top from NY&CO

 Blessings to all!
I'm still not feeling 100% - CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!  Tomorrow I have an appointment so hopefully they have answers and a solution to helping me feel "normal" again.  Not much of an update on my end.  The pictures above are from my nephews baptism - my 5th god-child.  God didn't give me my own babies but he blessed me with plenty of nieces and nephews whom I adore to death.  I wish I had more of an update but I honestly just been too sick to do much.  The house continues to come along, we're super proud with the progress.  I keep saying I'm going to post pictures and haven't  BUT I will - I PROMISE!

TIP:  Never EVER let just anyone cut your hair.  Several months back I went to the salon I've been going to for years and my girl, my hair dresser was on vacation but I was in desperate need of a hair cut and so I allowed someone I've never been too to cut it.  BIG MISTAKE!!!  This lady cut my hair unevenly, I mean she started my bang in the middle of my head.  Now I'm going to a new salon since my move and we're trying to fix this hair and fixing entails cutting layers and trimming every so often.  In the meantime I like my "new" hair cut.  Only con as of now is that some parts are really short and its hard for me to do my every day bun.  Pro is I'm forced to do my hair lol.

October Boob Check

I wanted to post a quick update and being that October is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS month I figured why not make a post about my recent mammogram.

A few weeks ago I went to see my gynecologist for my annual visit.  We all know how much fun those visits are - right? *rolls eyes / sarcasm*
Anyways, so he acknowledged the fact that I hit a milestone this year, the big 4 0.  He said it’s time to incorporate mammograms as part of my check-ups.  My initial reaction was ummmmm no, I’m too young!  The Mr was diagnosed with breast cancer at 32 and there are thousands of young women battling breast cancer so I didn’t argue.  Better safe than sorry!  So, last Saturday I went, honestly it was no biggie!  This wasn’t my first but it was easier than the first.  Back in 2001 my GYN doctor felt a lump on my right breast and suggested I get it checked out.  It was nothing - thank god!  I was told I have lumpy breast 😒 nothing to worry about according to the doctor.  I remember my first mammo being so painful, literally it felt like my boob was going to explode from being squashed so hard!  I dreaded last weeks visit!  Surprisingly tho it was NOT bad at all!!!  The tech that did my exam was so gentle and although it wasn’t a pleasant or comfortable experience it did not hurt!

Please don’t be afraid or hesitate to get your boobies checked. I can not express the importance of early detection, it can literally save your life.  I self check my boobs (or try too) every month usually after my menstrual cycle. Feel your boobs, know what they feel like so that when something is abnormal you’re able to tell the difference.  Know your body as a whole!!!  Seriously, know every inch of your body, explore.  Find out what is normal, what feels good and what doesn't.  I could go on and on AND on with this topic but I'll end it here because this will quickly turn into something else.

After my appointment we took a stroll through Central Park.  It was such a beautiful day, perfection to say the least.  Felt like a Spring day, mind you its Fall.  Mother nature is playing games with us again, I'm not complaining tho.  If only the temperature could stay 65-75 degrees permanently.  Wishful thinking ha ha!

UPDATE 10/8/18:  Received a call and my exam came back abnormal.  They see something in my left breast. Scared is an understatement but remaining hopeful!  Trying to convince myself it’s just a repeat of the last time.

End Of Summer

Happy September!!  Who else is excited about Fall?

Last week was hectic for me, work was a little crazy but I'm happy I survived.  It was one of those weeks where every single morning I contemplated on calling out - I didn't tho.  On top of the craziness I wasn't feeling well both mentally and physically.  I have so much to do and its not getting done.  Ugh!!

On another note I changed my social medias name to reflect this blog.  I used Sasse142 for so many years, I thought about it long and hard and decided Sasse142 isn't who I am anymore.  I came up with that name while sitting on the toilet ha ha.  I needed an AOL screen name and that's what I came up with, Sass E (e for Erika) 142 (the street I lived on).  I haven't lived on that street in over 22 yrs!  I changed everything to (or tried at least) NYCLifeandGlam.  After doing so it felt right, it was meant to be - I'm happy.

So, if you noticed from my pictures I beautified myself for my sister's birthday dinner. Dinner with a burlesque show and it was fun, I loved it, I mean who doesn't love a good Burlesque show, so classy.  It's been a while since I put on lashes or a full face of makeup for that matter.  The lashes made this simple look a bit more dramatic!  I swear if I had the time to put lashes on every day I would!  I love the way they make my eyes look not to mention I feel sexy.  I took the time to use some new FENTY BEAUTY items I bought a while back.  Huge rave for the Killawatt highlighter tho, I used it on my lids and it gave me the perfect amount of glitter 2 thumbs up for sure.  I'm loving Fenty Beauty products so far!  I will list all products below.

I apologize for the poor quality photos.  They were taken with my {very} old iphone.  I had no intentions whatsoever to have a "photo shoot".  The night was perfect and I just decided to go for it.

Sunday Funday at the MET

What a good, productive, rainy Sunday.  I normally like to stay home on Sundays to pamper myself and mentally prepare for the next day - Monday Madness.  We made a last minute decision to go to the Metropolitan Museum.  I mainly wanted to see the Heavenly Bodies exhibition which was amazing but we walked around and looked at other exhibitions throughout the museum.  I forgot how much I enjoyed this place.  My favorites are the African and Greek exhibitions.  I loved Greek Mythology in school so it was nostalgic so see certain sculptures of the gods and goddesses and actually remember who they were.  I'm curious to know if they still teach Mythology in school.  Anyone know?  We later had brunch at the restaurant at the MET overlooking Central Park.  Sitting by the window, watching the rain just gave it a peaceful and relaxing ambiance.  I truly CAN NOT wait to go back!  I already have my eye on another exhibition - Obsession (nudes) and Art of Native America.

I'm attaching a few photos of my favorites along with my OOTD.

Flowy Florals

I need my nieces around more often!!  Hanging out with them usually turns into a photo shoot, me being the photographer but today was my turn to be in front of the lens.  When my niece asked if I wanted her to take pics of me I jumped on the opportunity.  I wish I had my camera but an iPhone had to do.  I wish I could blog more about fashion and my outfits of the day but its hard.  Kudos to my fellow bloggers who get it done on a daily basis, you truly inspire me.  Hiring my nieces is looking like a good idea at this point.  Photographer for hire!  Anyone?  Ha!!

I love the versatility of kimonos, I decided to wear jeans but it would look great with shorts or as a bathing suit cover up.  This outfit was super comfy yet feminine and stylish.  I usually try to keep it very simple but I'm happy with how this look turned out.
